Spike Lee has had a long career in film and has waited almost a lifetime to earn an award for his work as a writer and director. Spike Lee rose to fame with his hit movie Do the Right Thing. A movie about a hot day in Brooklyn NY and the racial divide that they have to deal with all in one day. The film was a critical acclaimed hit and was a snob during the Oscars that year losing to Driving Miss Daisy, staring Morgan Freeman.
